Figuring Out the D40

I got my new camera on Tuesday of last week. As you can imagine, I am still working out all of the settings that I like for different shots ... I am sure it will be a while before I can know what I want and how to set the camera up to get it!

Anyway, I have been playing around a little bit this week and today I went out around downtown Rock Hill, SC to take a few more. It proved to be quite hot today around 3 p.m., so I didn't get everything I wanted to, but here are a few that I thought turned out pretty good for a newbie ;).

Favorites from India and Nepal

Just got the new Nikon d40 today, but before I have a chance to take some serious photos I thought you might enjoy a little trip to India and Nepal! I have been to India five times, but March 2007 was my very first trip to Nepal. Enjoy reliving some of the moments with me ...

Nepalgunj, Nepal—located down in the southern part of Nepal, in the plains. I preferred to call it "Little India":

Oh, I have a "thing" for cool looking buildings too - go figure! :)

Pokhara, Nepal:

The Agra Fort in Agra, India. (I love the colors!)

The album wouldn't be complete without the famous Taj Mahal in Agra, India:

Travel With Me to Fiji ...

I traveled to Fiji, accompanied by my friend and coworker, Audra, in October of 2006 with the Jesus Film Project. We met some really fabulous people and had a little time to see one of the world's most beautiful places. Here are a few of my favorite shots from the trip:

I had to put this last one in just because it makes me laugh. After a month of chasing down and killing roaches every evening—me, not her, Audra was sooo happy to be leaving our apartment that she could hardly contain herself!! ;D

My Latest Venture ... Photography

I don't know about you, but things like trees, flowers, mountains, and "not posed" people really inspire me. They always have, but I never really thought of myself as a photographer, and maybe I'm not—you can decide for yourself ;).

After being frustrated with the slowness of my Fuji A210 "point and shoot" for some time now, I have decided to take the plunge and purchase a digital SLR camera which will keep up with me! I should be receiving my new Nikon D40 next week some time, but I thought it would be fun in the meantime to post some of my favorite photos from the last three years of traveling around the world and such. I hope you will enjoy the journey with me! I will begin by posting photos taken right in America's heartland—Holland, MI.

Tiptoe through the Tulips

These were taken in Holland, MI in the summer of 2006. I captured these images with my "point and shoot," a Fuji A210, 3.2 Mega Pixels. They haven't been "photoshopped" at all. Enjoy!
